The Pretty Wild
zero.point.genesis
Sumerian Records
You know you’re listening to something special when opener ‘Paradox’ just launches itself at you with such directness. That this initial savagery then gives way to a vocal section that is sweetly dark both justifies the title in full but also gives a window into the fuck boundaries ethos of The Pretty Wild. Just when you think you’ve got them sussed they change the vibe again, and again. While the obvious influences are from the metal spectrum we get all kinds of other genres making appearances. There’s a theatrical feel to ‘zero.point.genesis’ that screams ‘please make me into a musical’. The great thing is the writing is plenty smart enough to keep the continuity right on track. You get full on metalcore vox contrasting with the near fairy tale like clean passages, the latter a nod towards a liking of the classics. The arrangements also show that this duo (sisters no less) have a really wide scope of musical appreciation. This though is their record and they’ve made it very much their own. It feels fresh with lyrics that show these siblings have had to battle to be where they are. There are words of positivity, but of a journey uncomplete. This is such a cool album it’s sub-zero, hell even the cover art is on another level.
