Satan’s Cats

Satan’s Cats EP – Salamander Records

What happens when two punk worlds collide? Well in the case of Satan’s Cats the end result is a damn fine first EP. Made up of former members of Satan’s Rats who supported the Sex Pistols back in 1977 and Puss Johnson of Pussycat And The Dirty Johnsons Satan’s Cats tick all the right boxes. The music is no nonsense as you’d expect, however it’s played with a confident boldness that only comes with mature musicians. Johnson’s vocals are memorable for all the right reasons. They have her unique timbre that makes her instantly recognisable. And the material allows her to show just how expansive she can be. Opener ‘You Make Me Sick’ stands the test of time well in this refreshed form. A cover of Thin Lizzy’s ‘I’m A Rocker’ is treated with the upmost respect and sounds quite wonderful. You can only hope this isn’t a one off collaboration because an album and some live shows would be very welcome.
